New Public Art Restoration: Ancestral Totem

The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs recently restored “Ancestral Totem” by renowned sculptor Ayokunle Odeleye, one of five of his works in the City’s public art collection.

Located near Georgia State University’s campus, the striking stainless-steel sculpture rises skyward as a contemporary homage to ancestral traditions and cultural heritage.

Odeleye, celebrated for blending modern design with African symbolism, has created works across the country, but Atlanta is home to the largest number of his public artworks.

Next time you’re in the area, take a moment to experience this true reflection of history, culture, and community up close.
