ARTSCool
ARTSCool is an arts-based summer employment program designed for youth ages 14 to 18, offering a unique blend of arts education, job training, and cultural enrichment. Over a four-week period, students work as apprentices under the mentorship of professional artists, developing technical skills in various artistic mediums. In addition to hands-on training, participants engage in personal development activities and gain exposure to Atlanta’s vibrant cultural scene. The program culminates in a professional-scale exhibition, where students proudly showcase their most impressive creations.
Historically associated with the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency, ARTSCool has evolved into a vital Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) that nurtures the next generation of Atlanta’s artists. This year, ARTSCool SYEP provided 100 young apprentices with the opportunity to learn and grow in their chosen art forms.
The primary goals of ARTSCool SYEP are to deliver high-quality arts instruction that equips Atlanta-area youth with technical skills through medium-specific curriculums, and prepare them for personal and professional success through practical employment experience.
This year, the ARTSCool program proudly served 100 students, offering hands-on experiences in Mural Arts and Film/Puppetry Arts. In collaboration with the Center for Puppetry Arts and Make Believe Village, students had the opportunity to explore their creativity and learn from industry professionals. Our programs were hosted at several key locations, including the Collier Park Recreation Center and J.D. Sims Recreation Center for Mural Arts, and Make Believe Village for Film/Puppetry Arts. These partnerships and facilities provided a vibrant environment for young artists to develop their skills and passion for the arts. Each student worked closely with artist instructors, who guided them in creating final projects. Two murals were created at our Collier Park Recreation Center location that will be installed across the street from 650 Cleveland Ave and around the corner from Hutchinson Elementary and Oak Hill Child, Family, and Adolescent Center.
This program is supported in part by Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. Georgia Council for the Arts also receives support from its partner agency – the National Endowment for the Arts.
