The Office of Cultural Affairs has restored the International AIDS Monument, Hope, by renowned sculptor Felix de Weldon, located in John Howell Park.
Created in 1995, Hope stands as a tribute to those affected by the AIDS epidemic, serving as a powerful symbol of remembrance, resilience, and community support.
Designed by de Weldon—best known for the iconic Iwo Jima Memorial—this monument reflects his ability to capture profound moments in history through sculpture. Its presence in Atlanta underscores the city’s commitment to honoring those impacted by HIV/AIDS while fostering awareness and dialogue for future generations.
This restoration ensures that Hope continues to serve as a powerful symbol of remembrance and resilience in Atlanta’s public art landscape.
