Each year, the Cultural Experience Project (CEP) brings learning to life for Atlanta Public Schools (APS) students by connecting them with the city’s rich cultural and artistic treasures. Through CEP, students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade gain free access to some of Atlanta’s premier cultural institutions, including live performances, docent-led tours, and hands-on learning experiences—all thoughtfully aligned with curriculum goals and the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards.
When limited Title I funds paused scheduling for our “Kinder in the Garden” trips, the Ruth & Talmage Dobbs, Jr. Charitable Foundation stepped in with a generous $20,000 gift. Thanks to their support, 3,766 Kindergartners will have the opportunity to explore the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s vibrant living collections—an experience that sparks curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong connection to nature.
This year, CEP has partnered with 23 cultural institutions to provide a wide range of enriching experiences. Second graders will attend a performance of The Nutcracker presented by the Atlanta Ballet at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Seventh graders will immerse themselves in the aquatic and artistic worlds of the Georgia Aquarium. High school students will engage with performing arts and history through visits to Theatrical Outfit, the King Center, and the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University.
The City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs is deeply grateful to the Ruth & Talmage Dobbs, Jr. Charitable Foundation and all of CEP’s cultural partners for making these transformative experiences possible. Their support ensures that every APS student has the opportunity to explore, learn, and be inspired by Atlanta’s cultural treasures.
