Painted iron and wood
This playground structure of a house encompassed by a heart is made up of iron and wood. It was created by artist and architect Eleanor Hand, whose collaborative style invites participants to “experience the magic of the creative process and the celebration of the community.” Hand engaged children of the local community in the design and construction of this sculpture. Following a series of art classes for local children, the kids each designed a model for a sculpture for the park. The community selected a favorite, the model of the house-inside-the-heart by Isaia Jackson, age 15. Hand then transformed the model into a functional sculpture, and enlisted the kids of the community to help with the construction of the sculpture.
