Felix de Weldon
1995
Bronze and brick masonry
Hope is a work of art by nationally renown artist Felix de Weldon who created the Marine Corps War Memorial of five U.S. Marines and one sailor raising the flag of the United States on Iwo Jima during World War II as well as other nationally famous monuments. This piece at John Howell Park draws attention to the international aids epidemic and is a smaller version of a sculpture he designed in Washington D.C. as an AIDS memorial.
