Community Portrait is a permanent installation of 2,000 photographic tiles in the lobby of the Adamsville Recreation Center in southwest Atlanta. Nearly 500 photographs were taken of local residents to create a portrait of the Adamsville community. Three large tile murals of historical figures complement the residents’ portraits. In addition, decorative color tiles create friezes above the doorways. The work was commissioned by the Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs in 2003.
Vicki Ragan has exhibited as an artist photographer in major venues around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, FotoFest in Houston, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Photokina in Cologne, Germany, the Southeastern Museum of Photography in Daytona Beach, Florida, and the Houston Center for Photography. She has received numerous public art commissions and has permanent installations in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and the Island Grove Regional Park Community Building in Greeley, Colorado. She lives in Atlanta with her family.
