Our Summer Camp encourages artistic expression and offers children an experience filled with creative energy.
Each week explores a different discipline through two- and three-dimensional projects in clay, drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, mixed media, and more.
Along with visual arts, all age groups will enjoy movement arts such as yoga, dance, acting, and improvisation.

Camp Sessions are Monday – Friday, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm

Week 1- Picture Perfect Portraits | July 11th – 15th | Class ID#: 1.082.201.01
Learn the basics of color theory & perspective while exploring the world of the self by creating self-portraits inspired by Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso, and Chuck Close.

Week 2- Mud Extravaganza! | July 18th – 22nd | Class ID#: 1.082.201.02
Pinch, Pull, and Press Clay into anything and everything your heart desires. Students will create clay paintings and sculptures that will be finished with acrylic paint, and functional objects that will be glaze fired at Chastain and available to pick up the following week.

Week 3- Splish-Splash, Splatter | July 25th – 29th | Class ID#: 1.082.201.03
Explore the world of abstraction through the art of Jackson Pollock, Wassily Kandinsky, and others. Students will develop their own palette and aesthetic while creating abstract art in 2-D and 3D based on the styles of these legendary artists.

Week 4- Flash, Zap, Shazam! | August 1st – 5th | Class ID#: 1.082.201.04
Explore the artists of the Pop Art Movement: Roy Lichenstein, Andy Warhol, James Rosenquist; as well as contemporary artists: Hebru Brantley and KAWS to create your own cartoons, comics, action figures, stories, heroes, & heroines. Upper-level students will learn drawing and composition techniques as they create narratives.

TEEN POTTERY ON THE WHEEL | Instructor: Kimberly Shelton | July 11th – August 15th | Class ID#: 1.013.201.01
Mondays 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM for 6 Weeks
Students will examine an array of wheel-thrown pottery techniques. The focus is on basic throwing skills, glazing, decorating, and firing. Pottery tools and supplies will be provided by Chastain.

TEEN HANDBUILDING | Instructor: Kimberly Shelton | July 12th – August 16th | Class ID#: 1.013.201.02
Tuesdays 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM for 6 Weeks
If you’ve always wanted to work in clay, this is the class for you. We will explore hand-building techniques such as pinch, coil, and slab to build functional pottery and sculpture. Basic glazing and surface treatments will be taught as well. You will leave this class with a strong foundation in utilizing the tools and techniques when using clay as well as a few beautiful one-of-a-kind artworks of your own! A class for all levels. Handbuidling tools and supplies will be provided by Chastain.
