About the Artist
Emerson is an artist living in Atlanta, Georgia. Her paintings and installations present viewers with highly stylized versions of nature that combine geometric patterns and mythic archetypes to examine contemporary landscape. Inspired by themes ranging from battlefields, war propaganda, literature, and idyllic gardens, she uses the landscape for impression, abstraction, symbolism, and sentiment. She has exhibited her paintings and installations in galleries throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, including White Columns, New York, Cosmic Gallery, Paris, and the Musee de la Civilisation, Quebec, Canada. Her work was published in Noplaceness: Art in a Post Urban Landscape, a biennial publication by Atlanta Art Now and Stickers Deluxe: From Punk Rock to Contemporary Art. Recently she exhibited her work at Mirus Gallery, San Francisco, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville, Fl., and she was commissioned by the City of Atlanta to create a permanent mural for Elevate 2013. Emerson teaches Painting and Drawing at Emory University.
