About the Artist

Lisa Tuttle is an artist and an arts administrator based in Atlanta. Currently, she is the Interim Director of the Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture, where she has worked with the Public Art Program for the past ten years. She has been a curator, gallery director and arts administrator for almost 30 years. She was the gallery director for both Nexus Contemporary Art Center and the Atlanta College of Art, and the Visual Arts Director for The Arts Festival of Atlanta, where she oversaw NEA-funded site work projects, and organized and curated temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, including during the Olympics in 1996. She was also a founding board member of the Metropolitan Public Art Coalition, and served two terms on the City of Atlanta Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC), appointed by Mayor Franklin. As an artist, she is represented by Sandler Hudson Gallery, and her studio is located at the Arts Exchange. She has completed several public art projects, including Harriet Rising, in collaboration with Alice Lovelace, commissioned by the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program and Underground Atlanta, which was named as one of the 50 best public art projects by the 2012 Public Art Network Year in Review by Americans for the Arts. She has received a number of awards as an artist – a King Baudouin Foundation Cultural Exchange Fellowship for an artist residency in Belgium, a Caversham Center for Artists and Writers residency in South Africa, and two Southern Arts Federation/NEA Visual Arts fellowships – one for Sculpture (1991) and a second for Photography (1995). Her works are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, the Federal Reserve Bank, and Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, as well as numerous private collections. Her work has been exhibited in the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia; the Georgia Museum of Art, Athens, Georgia; Nexus Contemporary Art Center/ Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Atlanta; Spelman College, Atlanta; Space One-Eleven, Birmingham, Alabama; City Gallery East and City Gallery at Chastain, Atlanta; the Grand Palais, Paris; the Arts Festival of Atlanta; the Burden Gallery/Aperture Foundation, New York; the Mississippi Museum of Art, Jackson, Mississippi; and in the Exhibition Space at 112 Greene Street, New York.
