Artist Statement
My work explores the nature of play and place. I believe that making art and playing are natural proclivities that nourish us. Most of my work is based in public participation. I am fascinated with traditions that deliver communitas. Lantern parades are glorious illustrations of how the brilliance of individuals illuminate a community. When we lay down joyful shared memories in a place, it is a blessing on that place. Parade arts operate as powerful creative place making and foster enduring bonds between people and place. Civic play delivers the gift of civic kinship.
