The OCA has recently completed conservation work on Memorial, Carpets, Panels, and Books by artists Jim Hirschfield and Sonya Ishii. Created in 1994, the cone-shaped bronze sculpture sits prominently in front of the Atlanta Detention Center and serves as a symbolic and contemplative presence in the downtown landscape.
Memorial, Carpets, Panels, and Books invites viewers to reflect on themes of memory, knowledge, and ritual, encouraging passersby to pause and interpret its meaning within their own context. As with much of Hirschfield and Ishii’s collaborative work, the piece bridges the personal and the collective, offering a quiet space for contemplation amidst the movement of city life.
