ARTSCooL: A Teen Arts Employment Program
|
ARTSCooL is an employment program developed and coordinated by the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs, a division of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. The program is designed to provide young people with arts and job training, a salary and cultural experiences that enhance personal development.
Program participants work with professional artists to create marketable artwork that is exhibited and sold during our annual closing exhibition. All proceeds from sales are reinvested into the program to purchase supplies for the following summer session.
ARTSCooL offers training in the visual, literary and performing arts. Mediums like stone sculpture, printmaking, photography, creative writing, textiles, and bead painting are offered in individual program sections called studios. Each studio consists of one mentor artist leading a team of six (6) to twelve (12) apprentices. Career and etiquette workshops, museum visits, gallery tours and other cultural experiences are included in the curriculum.
