RELIEF PRINTMAKING/ Kathy Garrou
Wed 6:30-9:30 PM 3/28-5/23 Fee: $186 Class #400
This class will concentrate on relief printmaking: a method that exploits the surface characteristics of any material. It is the most direct form of print making. It is not even necessary to have a press. The image can be built up using a wide variety of objects pasted onto a board in low relief, the surface of which is inked. A print is taken by placing the paper on top and either rubbing the back or by running through a press. We will explore the use of various materials, wood, linoleum and found objects; hand rubbing and press printing; multiple blocks and reduction prints. We will learn how to combine techniques to create exciting, rich prints. Beginners are welcome, as well as those with experience. Each student will receive individual attention at his or her own level. A $15 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.
OPEN STUDIO PRINTMAKING
3/26-5/25 Fee: $150 Class #401
Open studio is for previous Chastain Arts Center students who will work independently. Registration must be approved by the printmaking instructor. Students may work when space is available and no class is meeting. Open Studio ends 30 minutes prior to Center’s closing.
