DESIGN BASICS/ Woody Cornwell

This course will investigate the basic elements of two-dimensional design (line, shape, value, texture, and color) and the principles of design (harmony, variety, balance, rhythm, repetition, emphasis, and economy). You will develop a practical visual vocabulary that is fundamental to all the visually creative fields from painting to photography, fashion to graphic design, and others.

ABSTRACT PAINTING AND DRAWING/

Designed for both beginners and experienced artists; covering the fundamentals of abstraction: line, shape, color, texture, and composition using a variety of media. The class will approach adbstraction from specific "points of entry': gestural abstraction, texture and collage, music, language and visual studies of established abstract artists. Explore the world of abstraction with experimentation and discussion to become more familiar with your own personal style.

PAINTING NATURE IN WATERCOLOR/ Kathy Rennell Forbes

This watercolor class will focus on painting elements from nature, with an emphasis on trees, clouds, water and rocks for this session. Teacher will demo for 30 minutes at the start of class. Students will then paint and teacher will assist each student individually as needed. This class is open to beginning and intermediate students (helpful to have some prior watercolor experience).

PAINTED VACATIONS/

This class will show you how to create beautiful paintings from your favorite vacation photos. Students will create finished paintings using the water media paints of their choice (watercolor, acrylic, or gouache). Prior painting experience is beneficial. Instructor will complete class demonstrations, and students will create their own finished paintings from their own reference photographs. Returning students will build on the skills developed in previous sessions. Do not buy new supplies, we will work with what you have initially then assess if anything additional is needed.

Chinese painting is an active meditation, which will help you to slow down and have more focus in all areas of your life. You do not need to know how to draw! By learning strokes, techniques and patterns on an individual basis, you will acquire the tools to enable you to have a creative outlet. If you are an accomplished artist in another medium, this technique will help you become looser. A supply fee of approximately $83 will be collected from each student at the first class meeting.

PAINTING THE HEAD AND FIGURE IN ANY MEDIUM

Explore the excitement and challenge of painting the head and figure using the medium of your choice. Working from a live model, participants will learn specific techniques for rendering heads and figures that are solid, convincing, and alive. We will use both nude and clothed models. The course will begin with black and white studies, and color will be introduced as the quarter progresses. This course will include a combination of exercises and demonstrations. Drawing experience is a prerequisite for this intermediate level course. A model fee of approximately $60 will be collected from each student at the first class meeting.


PAINTING STRUCTURE & COMPOSITION

SILK DYE PAINTING

A course covering the basics of silk painting with acid dyes, the use of gutta rubber resist and water-based resist, and various other techniques including soy wax resist. Steam setting the dyes will be shown. Silk fabric is used, although silk scarves are recommended since they are a finished product. All levels welcome, and those with experience will have customized lessons.

STUDIO GROUP RENTAL

Want to get together with other artists or your friends for a regular time to paint? We offer studio space to groups of artists for a nominal rental fee. Anyone in the office will be pleased to provide you information on how to either create a group or join an existing group.
